Sister Shemora’s Breastfeeding Story

I come from a breastfeeding family. It never crossed my mind not to breastfeed. Because it is in the Quran, breastfeeding is a form of worship. I strive to be obedient to Allah, therefore it is important to me.
I had my son at home. Once I pushed him out the midwife placed him on my tummy and he crawled up to my breast and latched on. By himself! I was looking around for someone to guide me. I was afraid he might slip off of my chest and fall. Then I thought, “Duh! Hold him.” I wrapped my arms around him. That was it.
I nursed both my children a year and a half. I enjoyed breastfeeding because it is convenient. No bottles, sterilizing, warming up… and it is cheap.
My husband and family were very supportive. If I had a clogged duct, he would massage it out and send me right to bed. He never gave me a hard time about breastfeeding in public.
At least once a month I would get a clogged duct. That was the pits.
My advice to breastfeeding/pregnant women… When you are breastfeeding make sure you take care of yourself (get good sleep, don’t stress too much) and eat healthy (you want the nutritional quality of your breast milk to be good, and you don’t want your bones, skin, teeth to suffer).  Do take a breastfeeding supplement!
